Everyone is invited and encouraged to “Give it a try!”   

If something on the list below catches your attention, you can try it out without a life-long commitment. We call this program “First Serve”.  Fill out a blue “First Serve” card at the information table in the Rotunda at the church.  You will be contacted soon!

Acolytes

A ministry to include children 6th through 12th grade in the liturgies of the church in a non-threatening and meaningful way. This ministry also includes opportunities for adults to assist.

Youth Opportunity:  Following training, vest and process with other acolytes and clergy at 8:00 or 10:00 service and occasional special services.  Time commitment:  arrive 15 minutes before service.

Adult Opportunity:  Wash acolyte albs, change seasonal ribbons on acolyte crosses, assist in training acolytes, remind acolytes of their scheduled days, send birthday cards/notes.

Altar Guild

Provides a way to participate in a quiet and spiritual behind-the-scenes ministry, so that all will experience worship which is organized, beautiful and efficient.

Altar Team:  Serve on a team to prepare the altar and sanctuary for regular Sunday Eucharists and occasional services.  Serve approximately once a month, time commitment, 1 hour for set-up, 30 minutes for clean-up.

Flower Team:  Design, create and/or provide floral arrangements for Altar and Rotunda areas.  Time commitment:  2 hours.

Decorating Team:  Work with a team to decorate the church for Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter.  Time commitment:  approx. 3 hours per holiday.

Banner Team:  Work with a team to design and create banners for the Worship area.  Time commitment varies.

Bulletin Ministry

Assembles the Sunday bulletin – a major communications tool for the parish.

Meets weekly on Friday mornings to remove outdated material and insert new material in the welcome packets.

Drama Ministry

Provides a unique way to facilitate understanding of scripture and liturgy in a new way.

There are opportunities to get involved for Actors, Script writers, or Props/Set builders.

Hospitality Ministry

We foster a sense of welcoming where people can get to know one another by providing coffee, juice and cookies after Sunday church services.

Cookie buddies make or buy 5 – 6 dozen cookies to be served by the Coffee Hosts.  Serve approximately once a month.

Coffee Hosts make and replenish the coffee, punch and water decanters and set out the cookies.  Serve on a team approximately once a month.  Arrive 15 minutes before the service, clean up is completed approximately 40 minutes after the service.

Information Center

Provides information or direction to those with questions.

Serve approximately once a month before and after the service you customarily attend.

Landscape Team

We maintain the beauty of the landscaped areas and control the appearance of the non-landscaped areas.  The first Saturday of each month you are invited to join us for a donut and cup of coffee at 9 before we work until about noon.

Jobs include:  sweeping or blowing leaves and debris, weeding, gopher control, pruning shrubs and trees, spreading fertilizer or weed-control, weed-whacking, using the ride-on mower to mow the lawn.

Lectors and Intercessors

A ministry to read the Old Testament lesson, Epistle or Prayers of the People at the service you customarily attend during weekly services on Sundays. Training is required and will be done one-on-one. Serve approximately once a month, during the service your customarily attend.

Lay Eucharistic Ministers (Chalice Bearer)

A ministry to provide assistance to the clergy during communion by serving the chalice, and on occasion, the bread. You must be a baptized Christian to join this ministry. Training is necessary and will be done on a one-on-one basis.  Serve approximately once a month, during the service your customarily attend.

Maintenance Ministry

To provide a comfortable and welcoming place for people to worship, this ministry maintains and repairs our facility, including HVAC, plumbing and electrical systems.

Expertise is desired in the following areas:  HVAC, plumbing, electrical, general maintenance.  Twice a year we host clean up days for window washing, touch-up painting and other occasional tasks.  Special, specific care is taken in the kitchen.

Music Ministry

This team provides inspiration and adoration in worship with vocal and instrumental accompaniment, leading the congregational singing and offering special anthems.

The choir rehearses once a week for approximately 1 ½ hours.  Singers/instrumentalists can commit to one or both services on Sunday morning.  For those who can only make a seasonal commitment, the Christmas or Easter choir are options.  A music team secretary assists in filing music weekly.

Newcomer Welcoming Team

This team introduces newcomers to Faith Church and helps them find ways to participate in the life of the church.

Opportunities to help this ministry include food preparation of potluck-type dishes for  socials or Faith 101 – Intro to Faith Church, attending the social to meet newcomers, phone calls to those who have submitted an information card on Sunday or phone calls to encourage attendance at an event or Faith 101 class.

Nursery/Preschool Greeters

We welcome families with young children and assist children in feeling comfortable with the transition from their parent to their peer group.   Volunteers are welcome to assist with signing children in and out.  This is a scheduled ministry, serving approximately once a month at your customary service.  Arrive 15 minutes before the service.  Another way to serve this ministry is to assist with our seasonal decorations.

Office Assistance

Volunteers assist the office staff with timely mailings, bulletin preparation, newsletters, flyer design and special projects like a church directory, service booklet preparation, or collection and analysis of statistics.  Great flexibility is available for volunteers in this ministry.

Pastoral Care

Supportively responds to the needs of Faith's parishioners and family during incidents such as illness, recent loss of a loved one, the birth of a baby, or hospitalization.  There are several ways to participate in this team:  visit a parishioner, make check-in phone calls, send a card, prepare a meal, provide transportation, provide occasional and temporary household help.

Sound Team

Use and develop production skills in collaboration with the Music Director and Rector to enhance the worship experience through the use of professional audio equipment.

Volunteers in this ministry manage/engineer the audio mix for Sunday worship services, set up and take down sound equipment for special events, create CDs of the services for those who weren’t able to attend the service.  Serve approximately twice a month, once on the board, once in the room, for both Sunday morning services.

Ushers and Greeters

Creating the first impression of Faith Church for those who attend worship, this team warmly greets those who attend, distribute bulletins, count those in attendance, take the offertory and monitor the room for comfort and assist worshipers during the service as needed.  Scheduled approximately once a month, at the service you customarily attend. 

Video Team

Augment the visual portion of worship by composing (with direction from office staff) MS Powerpoint presentation of a service and runs the presentation during Sunday morning services.  The team members coordinate presentation of occasional video clips and perform equipment maintenance as needed.  Team members serve approximately every six weeks.
